After taking a year off we are back with the neighborhood swim team for the summer program. 4 of our children are swimming this summer. What that means is that our weekends are not our own for the next 6 weeks. The swim meets start at 7:30am, which means that the kids need to be there at 6:30am. This puts a severe limit on Friday night activities.
The meets end at around 1pm, so we still have some of our Saturday available, but a nap is usually desired after such an early morning. So you may be thinking why do we do this to ourselves? We have asked this question of ourselves a few times. I guess we do it for the following reasons (in no particular order):
- it is a family sport. We have all of our swimming age children participating (except for our oldest who just doesn’t like sports all that much).
- good exercise for the kids (swim everyday except for Sunday)
- get to know our neighbors better (and as a consequence be a sign of contradiction in our community – more kids than the average family)
- the kids really like it.
